Our Employers Guide
Grow your team for less by hiring an apprentice – bringing fresh talent, new skills and enthusiasm to your business.
Why Hire an Apprentice?
Hiring an apprentice can bring significant benefits to your business. Apprentices can improve productivity while supporting staff retention. Your existing team can help nurture and develop an apprentice. This creates a sense of shared achievement and gives experienced staff mentoring opportunities.
There are also several financial incentives available to eligible employers. Depending on the apprentice's age and circumstances, training could be fully funded. Eligible employers may receive a £2,000 hiring payment for new employees under 25. This applies to apprentices starting from 1 October 2026. An additional £1,000 payment may apply to eligible 16–18-year-olds. It may also apply to qualifying 19–24-year-olds.
Other support may include a £2,000 incentive for each foundation apprentice recruited. A £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant may also be available to eligible young people aged 18–24. They must have claimed Universal Credit for six months or more. Employers may also pay no National Insurance contributions on eligible earnings for apprentices under 25. Eligible care leavers may qualify for a £3,000 bursary when starting an apprenticeship.

What Is an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a government-approved learning programme for people aged 16 and over. It provides an excellent way to develop your team and invest in your business's future.
Apprentices gain valuable hands-on experience in the workplace. They also work towards a recognised qualification while earning a wage.
For employers, apprenticeships provide an opportunity to develop new talent. They can also help build a skilled workforce and support long-term business growth.
What Does It Cost?
The cost of apprenticeship training depends on factors such as the apprentice's age and eligibility. For eligible apprentices under 25, training can be fully funded by the Government. This means there may be no training costs for the employer.
Eligible employers may also access additional financial support. This can include hiring payments and incentives, depending on the apprentice and business circumstances.
