Our Employers Guide
Grow your team for less by hiring an apprentice – bringing fresh talent, new skills and enthusiasm to your business.
Why Hire an Apprentice?
Hiring an apprentice can bring significant benefits to your business. Apprentices can help improve productivity while also supporting staff retention. Your existing team can play an important role in nurturing and developing an apprentice, creating a sense of shared achievement and giving experienced staff the opportunity to mentor and support the next generation.
There are also a range of financial incentives available to eligible employers. Depending on the apprentice's age and circumstances, you could benefit from fully funded apprenticeship training, a £2,000 hiring payment for eligible new employees under 25 starting an apprenticeship from 1 October 2026, and an additional £1,000 payment for eligible 16–18-year-olds or qualifying 19–24-year-olds.
Other support may include a £2,000 incentive for each foundation apprentice recruited, a £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant for eligible young people aged 18–24 who have been claiming Universal Credit for six months or more, and no employer National Insurance contributions on eligible earnings for apprentices under 25.
Eligible care leavers may also qualify for a £3,000 bursary when starting an apprenticeship.

What Is an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a government-approved learning programme designed for people aged 16 and over. It provides an excellent way to develop your team and invest in the future of your business.
Apprentices gain valuable hands-on experience in the workplace while working towards a recognised qualification and earning a wage. For employers, it's an opportunity to develop new talent, build a skilled workforce and support the long-term growth of your business.
What Does It Cost?
The cost of apprenticeship training depends on factors such as the apprentice's age and eligibility. For eligible apprentices under 25, training can be fully funded by the Government, meaning there may be no training costs for the employer.
Eligible employers may also be able to access a range of additional financial support, including hiring payments and incentives, depending on the apprentice and the circumstances of the business.
